Stationary Trips

On stationary trips, we travel to a base camp area and remain there for the entire trip – from two to 10 days. We go on horseback rides, day hikes, fish, and explore from the camp. You still get to experience the great outdoors while relaxing in the wilderness – and having full dinners prepared every evening. These trips are recommended for families and corporate getaways.

Day Rides

If you’re not interested or don’t have the time for a long adventure, we offer two-hour, four-hour, and full-day trail rides. Day rides are perfect if you still want to see the backcountry of Wyoming on horseback (and maybe even cast a line in the rivers and streams of the Washakie area) but don’t want to do an extended trip.

Progressive Trips

Cody to Jackson – Most Popular Trip!

Travel through (and camp in) some of the most beautiful places on earth, the Waskakie and Bridger-Teton wilderness, during an eight-day trip from Cody to Jackson. We camp in four to five different locations along the way, allowing you to truly experience the amazing landscape and have the chance to see deer, elk, moose, bears, wolves, and more. We cross the Continental Divide and pass historic mountain cabins and the headstones of the Yellowstone River. The trip goes one way – from Cody to Jackson or vice versa and the trips are available in July or August.

Cody to Dubois

Traverse the same trails that famous horse thieves and trappers once traveled on our five-day trip from Cody to Dubois! We ride up the South Fork of the Shoshone and over the Shoshone Pass, and down the Dunoir to Dubois, camping in a new place every night.

If there is somewhere you want to see on any of our trips, let us know! We can try to make a route to get you there.

Cody to Dubois Loop

Take the 10-day loop from Cody through four mountain passes into the Wind River Range and through the country the Shoshone Sheepeater Indians inhabited. We travel into valleys and cross three major rivers – providing a complete pack trip experience! We travel for six out of the 10 days, and trips are offered from mid-July through August.

Marston Trip

This trip offers excellent views of locations many tourists will never get to experience! It’s an eight-day trip that travels up the South Fork of the Shoshone, over the Marston Pass, and to the Buffalo Plateau. Then, it drops into the headwaters of the Yellowstone River, past Younts Peak, down Majo Pass into Thorofare River Valley, and back out Deer Creek to Cody. There is a good chance of seeing sheep, elk, and grizzly bears on this trip!

Yellowstone National Park Trips

Get off the beaten path and deep into the heart of Yellowstone National Park’s wilderness! Boulder Basin Outfitters is proud to offer pack trips through one of the first and most fascinating national parks in the world. These pack trips have the same luxuries as our other trips – including tents to camp in, latrines, and meals. However, some additional planning is required because we must reserve campsites in the park in advance.

Beyond the extraordinary views, Yellowstone offers some of the best fishing opportunities for Cutthroat Trout. If there are specific areas in the park you would like to see, let us know, and we will try to customize the trip to get there. We can also plan to explore more remote and historic cabins in the region if interested.

Corporate & Group Retreats

Retreat-style trips are perfect for groups of friends, families, work colleagues, and men’s and women’s groups to get together and reconnect. The trips are typically set at one base camp, but we can customize the trip to your group’s preferences. Enjoy horseback riding, fishing, hiking, and making memories around the campfire in the backcountry of Wyoming.

Additional Options from Boulder Basin Outfitters

Horse-Supported Backpacking

If you want to go on the adventure but prefer to keep your feet on the ground, we offer horse-supported backpacking. We pack your gear on horses so you can focus on the hike! We even set up the camp and have meals ready for you to enjoy. We can travel as far or as little as you want. The trips are self-guided, so we will meet you at the prearranged location with camp waiting for you. The trips vary from two to 10 days in length. GPS is highly recommended. Please ask us about our resupply services for backpacking trips.

Drop Camps

We also offer drop camps in certain areas, including Yellowstone National Park, if you are looking for more of a DIY trip. Please contact us for more information.

Fly Fishing Summer Pack Trips

If you enjoy fly fishing, take a guided trip with Boulder Basin Outfitters to some of the most pristine backcountry waters in Northwest Wyoming. We fish in the streams and lakes for brown trout, brook trout, cutthroat trout, golden trout, and rainbow trout. Ride on horseback to beautiful blue-ribbon trout streams and lakes for the greatest fishing adventure of your life.

Beginners and advanced fishermen are welcome! If you are advanced, we can ensure you get to the water and set you free to fish. If you are new to fly fishing and need assistance, our guides will gladly show you the ropes. We highly recommend catch-and-release fishing – but not until after we take a picture!

Yellowstone National Park & Thorofare Trips

Stay in some of the most remote areas of the lower 48 and fish in some of the top fisheries the region has to offer during a pack trip in Yellowstone National Park or the Thorofare River. During these trips, we fish exclusively for the famous Yellowstone native cutthroat trout that can be up to 20 inches in length and weigh up to four pounds. The trips are commonly six to ten days long and take place in late June through July.

Buffalo Fork

The Buffalo Fork is a one-of-a-kind river full of a variety of trout. It’s a tributary of the Snake River and offers opportunities to fish in everything from big waters to small streams. It has some of the best baby blue lakes, all named for the fish that can be found in them! We recommend a five to 10-day guided trip to get the full experience.

North & South Fork of the Shoshone & Greybull Rivers

Experience three of the finest fishing rivers around! These locations offer great fly fishing for a variety of trout ranging from 10 to 20 inches and up to five pounds! There are also high mountain lakes where the fish are very easy to catch, making for a ton of fun. You may even get lucky and catch a golden trout in these lakes. Trips are often five to seven days long and take place from June through August.

Single Day Fishing Trips

Not interested in a long adventure? No worries! We offer single-day fishing trips to the Northfork of the Shoshone. We ride our horses in the wilderness and fish for the entirety of the day, returning in the evening. Trips are offered from mid-May through August, and reservations are required.
