FAQs

Do I need to be physically fit to go on a hunting or pack trip?

This is a horseback vacation in the wilderness of Northwest Wyoming, so doing some physical fitness prior to your trip will greatly increase your odds of having a fun and enjoyable time. We also recommend horseback riding lessons before your trip so you are more comfortable on a horse. We have a strict rider weight restriction of 275 pounds for the safety of clients and horses.

What’s included in a trip?

We provide horses, camps with tents, cots, and chairs, breakfasts and coffee, on-the-go lunches, and buffet-style dinners.

What should I bring?

Do you offer day trips?

Yes! We understand not everyone can commit to a week-long trip in the wilderness. We offer trail rides through the backcountry and fly fishing in the Washakie area.

What makes your Wyoming hunting trips unique?

We guide hunters deep into Northwest Wyoming’s backcountry using experienced guides, horses, and established wilderness knowledge to create a true mountain hunting experience.

Are your trips suitable for first-time backcountry guests?

Yes. We help guests prepare for the terrain, horseback travel, camp life, gear needs, and the physical demands of a Wyoming wilderness trip.

Are hunt results guaranteed?

No. Weather, migration, animal movement, and hunter ability all affect outcomes. Our role is to provide experienced guiding, access, preparation, and a strong opportunity.

What hunting trips are available for elk and sheep?

Boulder Basin Outfitters currently does not offer hunting trips specifically for elk or sheep. Our focus is on providing exceptional guided horseback and fishing experiences.

Are gratuities expected on hunting or packing trips?

Tips are very much appreciated by the guides, cooks, and wranglers for a job well done. Boulder Basin Outfitters’ employees work hard and tirelessly to take care of our clients. We recommend a 10-15% gratuity for employees. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

When are the pack trips?

Our summer pack trips take place from June through September.

What is the age limit?

Our trips are all family-friendly! We welcome guests ages six and up. Call or email for more information.

Do I need horseback riding experience?

if you are coming on a trip with us, we recommend taking a horseback riding lesson or two ahead of time to get comfortable on a horse. Our horses are all beginner friendly and have no issues packing through the Wyoming wilderness.

Do we keep the fish we catch?

We highly encourage catch and release. Sometimes we may allow you to keep a fish for an evening appetizer.

Do you offer more than elk hunts?

Yes. We guide elk, antelope, bear, bighorn sheep, and other big game opportunities, along with pack trips, fishing, horseback riding, and wilderness excursions.

How do you help guests know what to expect before arrival?

We walk through the hunt plan, camp setup, travel logistics, terrain, physical demands, weather variables, and licensing details before the trip so guests arrive prepared.

How do you handle trip costs and policies?

We explain rates, deposits, balances, licensing, and trip protection options clearly before booking so every guest understands the investment and terms upfront.

Are day rides or multi-day wilderness expeditions available?

At this time, Boulder Basin Outfitters does not provide day rides or extended multi-day wilderness expeditions. Our services are tailored to other outdoor adventures in the Shoshone and Bridger-Teton National Forests.
